Budding golfer, Itayi Chidzero, underlined his growing reputation when he won his first trophy after dominating the Fairdridge Holdings Limited golf tournament at Country Club Limbe (CCL) on Sunday.
Chidzero scored 70 points to emerge champion while Chapusa Phiri finished runner-up after scoring 71 points.
Phiri counted out third-placed Chipiliro Mzanda who also had points.
Chidzero said he was happy to have emerged victorious.
“This is my first trophy since I started playing golf and it is an encouragement. There is more golf to be played this year and I am looking forward to more success,” he said.
The tournament attracted golfers from Blantyre Sports Club and CCL.
Fairbridge Holdings Chief Executive Officer, Winnie Salama, said they sponsored the competition to interact with golfers.
“We feel golf gives us a platform where we can mix business with leisure. So we are happy to have achieved our goal,” Salama said.
This was the third time for Fairbridge to sponsor a tournament at the venue this year.
