BY SAM BANDA JNR:
Blantyre Central Business District area on Livingstone Avenue will be on fire Friday through to Saturday as it plays host to a Carlsberg Street Party that will give people a chance to drink and enjoy different performances.
Some of the acts set to light the street party are Lucius Banda, who will come face to face with his brother Paul, Skeffa Chimoto, Edgar ndi Davis Band, Sam Smack, Nepman, Dan Lufani, Police Orchestra and Alleluya Band.
The others are Tay Grin, who has been dubbed as the urban headliner, with DJs Kenny Klips, Slyk, Trick, Nathan Tunes and Sir Charles set to show their magic on the decks.
The Carlsberg Street Party, which is part of celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Carlsberg beer, coincides with the country’s 54th independence anniversary celebration.
Castel Malawi Market Category Manager, Twikale Chirwa, said yesterday that all was set for the street party.
He said Carlsberg is a Danish brand that has been in Malawi since 1968, adding that Carlsberg Malawi was the first Carlsberg brewery outside Copenhagen and first and only Carlsberg brewery in Africa.
“The year 2018 marks 50 years of brewing, distributing and selling Carlsberg beers in Malawi. It also marks 50 years of market-leading, strong corporate presence, social contribution, stellar brands marketing and provision of social fun in Malawi, making Carlsberg Malawi a very big part of the history of Malawi,” Chirwa said.
He said Castel Malawi is the holding company for Castel Malawi Brewery Limited, Southern Bottlers Limited and Malawi Distilleries Limited, having acquired Carlsberg Malawi in 2016.
Apart from the street party, Chirwa said, as part of celebrating 50 years, they will be rolling out a 360 degree campaign.
“We will launch a number of activations and these include the street party, Carlsberg Cup, Three Litre bottle promotion, Vintage Billboards and Beer Fest,” Chirwa said.
He said they have a national consumer promotion running from June 15 to August 31 2018 celebrating 50 years of the presence of the Carlsberg brand in Malawi with consumer incentives.
“We are celebrating 50 years with different activities to reward loyal Carlsberg consumers and take consumers down the memory lane, among others,” he said.
Chirwa said they are hoping for the best during the street party.
“Last year, we also held a street party where we attracted a huge audience and we are hoping for the same this year. We just want to call upon people to come and party but drink responsibly,” he said.
