On Wednesday, Sulom issued a press release which stated that the body will go to the polls on March 2 to elect new bearers.
Mkandawire confirmed that he has been asked to contest for the post of president but said is consulting on whether it is necessary to vie for the post.
If Mkandawire decides to contest, he will most likely face Sulom Treasurer Tiya Somba Banda who has also been heavily linked with the hot seat.
Mkandawire said he is yet to make a decision on the matter and will map the way forward after consulting friends and family.
“It is true that there is that proposal but I am consulting. I will come back to you once I am through with my consultations” he said.
Incumbent Sulom president Innocent Bottomani announced that he will not seek re-election and this has opened up the position to several administrators.
Last week, a proposed list of potential office bearers earmarked to run the Super League governing body was leaked with names such as the Masters Security duo of General Secretary Zachariah Nyirenda and Team Manager Muhammad Selemani.
Nyirenda was proposed for the post of vice General Secretary with Selemani being suggested as legal advisor.
Clubs are currently nominating candidates to contest during the polls.
