Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Commercial and Marketing Director, Limbani Matola, said their Executive Committee met last Saturday to scrutinies the jerseys’ quality, design and price.
“We are glad to announce that the jerseys have been found to be of top quality and have an appealing design. The price has been set at K16,500 for wholesale at a minimum order quantity of five. What it means is that Malawians can put their money together and buy the jersey directly from Fam at K16,500,” he said.
Matola said traders would not be allowed to sell the jerseys at a retail price of more than K20,000.
“This is meant to allow many football fans to buy this jersey at an affordable price. Maybe it should be appreciated that efforts have been put in place so that the national team jersey remains affordable to most Malawians,” he said.
Matola said the price was reasonable compared to the 2014 price of K15,000.
He warned that Fam has put in place a system to detect fake jerseys and would take action if people duplicate them.
Local football administrator, Higger Mkandawire, said Fam should have produced jerseys of different quality so as to suit different classes of people.
“The product should have been of different quality so that people from lower, middle and higher class could be buying a jersey that suits them. Now, it would be difficult for Fam to make a lot of sales,” he said.
