Wheelchair Basketball Club members have called for support to enable physically challenged athletes from several districts to join the team.
One of the members, Charles Nkhoma, said many members from different areas were willing to join the league.
“The only setback is lack of support. We don’t have facilities for the sport in the country. We improvise on the court and even on wheelchairs too. There [the issue of availability of] are a lot of physically challenged people from across the country that would like to join the league. Sadly, league games are only available in Blantyre,” he said.
Nkhoma said the league offers physically challenged people a platform for interaction.
“You should not take this league lightly because it provides the best platform for interaction. Not all of us were born disabled; as, such we need a platform where we can interact,” he said.
The club’s founding member, Charles Nyasa, said they were compiling a list of potential players from different districts before coming up with a strategic plan to woo corporate support.
“It is true that we have a lot of people that want to participate in the league but we don’t have facilities and resources to help us achieve our goals,” he said.
